Encouraging Embryo Scientific Research Innovation

Enhancing Marine Biodiversity Research in Indonesia (Embrio) in collaboration with the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) LPPM IPB held The 3rd Embrio International Symposium (EIS). The event, held at the IPB International Convention Center (IICC) Bogor, lasted two days until yesterday.

Dean of FPIK IPB, Luky Adrianto, said Embrio could play a role in encouraging innovation and scientific research by utilizing the potential of marine biodiversity. “EIS 2017 is an important event for IPB because it is one of the main focus pillars in the field of research and education launched by IPB since 2014,” he said.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Gellwynn Jusuf, who was the keynote speaker, said EIS 2017 was a good initiation from universities to help the government achieve the human development index or SDGs. “A comprehensive strategy must be developed for conservation sustainability. Starting from the preservation of marine ecology, protection management, and marine biodiversity,” he said.

Vice Record for Research and Cooperation of IPB, Prof. Anas M Fauzi, added that Embrio is expected to be the central gate in building a cooperation network between international scientists and research institutions that want to build research collaboration in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the participants of EIS 2017 were 150 people. Sixty-three participants submitted scientific papers and 20 scientific posters. They came from several domestic universities. Among others, Riau University, Hasanudin University, University of Indonesia, Padjadjaran University, Brawijaya University, Ali Haji Maritime University, and Bengkulu University.

On this occasion, MoUs were also signed between IPB and James Cook University, IPB and National University of Singapore, IPB and National Institute of Technology Wakayama College, and IPB and Memorial University of Newfoundland. The scientific works of EIS 2017 will be published in several journals, including HAYATI (Biosciences journal), Indonesian Aquaculture Journal, Indonesian Ictiology Journal, Indonesian Fishery Products Processing Journal, Journal of Tropical Marine Science and Technology and Marine Fisheries Journal.
